On 20 December 2017, at the initiative of the Republic of Slovenia, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 20 May as World Bee Day.

As a country whose history is tightly connected to beekeeping, Ministry of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food organized a public anonymous competition to celebrate promotion, conservation and research on bees and named the award “The Golden Bee”.

Our proposal was a composition of two elements: a "beeswax body" made of bronze (gold color) and a darker metal base. In its appearance, it represents a product that will, even after the award is presented and placed in the world space, represent a preciousness and exceptionality of the highest national importance. The gold-black color combination of the graphic element corresponds to the final materials of the awarded statuette and plays a basic and recognizable role in all promotional materials.

Our team received a special award for design excellence.
